MEMBERSHIP PLANS

The American Cichlid Association (ACA) is a wonderful organization which is first and foremost a conservation group. We fund research, education and conservation efforts designed to support cichlids in the wild and in the hobby.

Hobbyists are key to the survival of this unique group of fish. In some instances, the wild habitat of cichlid species has been irreparably damaged and their survival as a species depends soley on the continued breeding and keeping in captivity. Scientists are also finding that many hobbyists have knowledge of these fish - their behaviors, the parameters they need to flourish, and reproductive requirements - that can only be obtained by years of working closely with them. Collaborative relationships between hobbyists and scientists are proving invaluable in researching and preserving cichlids.

The ACA also is here to help hobbyists connect with one another and provide opportunities to learn more about the fish we love to keep. We have an annual convention, a monthly newsletter and a quarterly journal, the Buntbarsche Bulletin, which provide opportunities for both.
