wecan, like most cichlids, a definite gender identity is difficult by sight alone. Often we think it's a male and then one day it will lay eggs. So, if you want a definite answer of male or female judging from your picture, it is not possible. We can only offer our opinions. My opinion is that it is female. You should be able to ascertain its gender when it is mixed with fish of the same species and it is old enough to develop a mating relationship with another maculicauda.
