One. Invariably I take most of my phoos while doing water changes. I'd like to say that I'm on top of it...but when I start taking pictures and something starts happening in the tank in front of the camera...I get distracted...and the next thing I hear is that sound of water spalshing on concrete.
Some times twice in one day.

We've all see photos of managuense or other cichlids flaring at the front of the glass. As in the wild this behavior is a warning to the object of their attention (in this case the camera lens) . Cichlids squaring off ieither in breeding or posturing, will often play this game of chicken in the tank...flaring, advancing, retreating only to flare again. I will often "wind up the fish by placing my open palm on the tank then quickly pulling back. The fish will dart forward...I put my hand...

A lot of my photographs are taken with a single source flash (diffused) and over the top of the tank. I feel it gives a more natural appearance. In order to squeeze every bit of detail from the photo, I try and shoot with a relatively small aperture (F18 - F29) The problem with this scenario is that at this aperture you tend to loose a lot of detail in the shadow section of the photo. Sometimes it works to your advantage if you are trying to get a particular "look".

I finally moved the breeding pair of labridens to their own 180 gallon breeding tank. They've been in the tank for almost two weeks and I have seen hide nor hair of either. Apparently they are in deep hiding since I removed their other tank mates. I decided to add a "distraction" to their tank inthe form of some Metynsis from the pond. All toll I have about thirty in the pond. I netted four very easily (a feat in itself) from the pond and put them in the tank. Almost immediately the two...

I took the pond down to about 10" of water and got a really good look at some of the long lost inhabitants. I didn't pull the pots out as planned...or clean the sand filter...but I did siphon the gravel and had a 1300 gallon water change. That should make them all feel fresh under the pectoral fins.
