Hi to all, I am a new member and have been keeping fish for 47 yrs...freshwater tanks only. I am in process of setting up a new 90 gallon tank in the next month or so and plan on stocking with African Cichlids. I have never kept them before and want to learn as much as possible about them before I start.
I currently have 12 juvenile angels scattered betweem a 75 gallon, 29,20 gallon tanks. Plan on breeding a couple of pairs or more. I also keep in 75 tetras of neon and rummy nose variety and about 4 platys and 2 baby bristlenose. All of these are young fish as I had one oscar and 2 featherfin cats in the 75 for past 10 yrs.
I have always been enamored with the Africans and am excited about getting some and hopefully raising some babies for fun. Just a hobby for me. I just want to learn as much as possible about cichlids and this looks like place to be. Thanks!
Jim H.

Hi Jim, Welcome!!! These are exciting times for us. I am just beginning to fire up the big tanks again for cichlids. I am really amazed at the variety that is available now after taking a break from them for over 20 years. I did a lot of the Africans in the 70's & 80's so now I am catching up on things that weren't available for a long time but are now like all the West African cichlids and many of the more unusual South American fish. You will enjoy the African cichlids just keep in mind that if you want peacocks that some of the mbuna can be rough on them. I always found the Tanganyikian fish more interesting. Whatever you choose enjoy them.
