I found a strange bug. I cannot seem to access this site with Firefox 9.0.1

I get the following error:

Bad Request
Your browser sent a request that this server could not understand.

Client sent malformed Host header

Web Server at cichlid.org

Thought I'd add it here to be looked at when we get a programmer

I ran into same type of bug w/ MFK except it was the opposite. I can only access their page w/ firefox not my droid browser. In fact, I only use firefox on my droid to look to look at MFK. My browser works fine w/ ACA and seemingly everything else.

Chris,

Thanks for reporting the problem. What OS are you using? (I just tried with Firefox 9.0.1 on Mac OS X and Windows Vista and had no problems.)

It's the strangest thing. This is my work laptop, running XP SP3. I've also tried running Firefox with all add-ons disabled, and it has the same problem. I'm at a loss, as I see other people are running FF 9.0.1 & XP SP3 with no issues. This also just started happening in the last week or two. I actually thought the server was down, didn't realize it was a browser issue until I accessed the site on my iPad.

p.s. Congrats Dean on the chairmanship

Chris,

Do you have another browser that you could try from your XP box to help us isolate the problem? (I typically have 4-5 browsers installed on any given machine in order to test things and deal with problematic websites.)

Thanks on the PS, by the way.

I can access with both IE & Chrome. I don't have safari installed.

My guess would be it is a browser setting that is causing the issue, I just cannot isolate it. I have tried accessing many other VB forums with Firefox and I have no issues, just this one.

I get that same thing with Facebook sometimes; but I'm on Mozilla 8.0 / Windows XP. I think it has something to do with Java. I'll have to look at the error more closely next time I get it.

Next time you get the error, go to "Help" and then "Trouble Shooting Information". Send that to one of the web admins; that will help them troubleshoot.

Thanks for the additional info, Chris. I'm still in the dark but that does help me to think of where to look.

Brian, that is a good idea to get us yet more info.

One possibility is it has something to do with redirection or auto logins but I'm not sure how to test that. I guess you could clear cookies and/or stored username and password info and see if that helps.

When I have the issue with Facebook, I have to close out of my browser and reopen it to rectify the problem. Also seems to occur more frequently when I am opening a link in a new tab, which I do by clicking my mouse wheel.

The problem seems to have rectified itself. I have also just updated to FF 10.0 which works as well.

Strange

Sporadically I have problems viewing things using IE, and usually they correct themselves in time. I was on this site Wednesday using Firefox 9.0 the other day after I uploaded some photos to Photobucket, for some reason their bulk uploader will not work with IE.
