I know this has probably

been proposed or tried before, but whether it has or hasn't - I'd like to push for a

session at the Sacremento convention on either Conservation or Madagascan Cichlids (preferred). I

know a couple local club members are interested - and wanted to see whther we could get enough

interest generated to initiate one of these. Please reply with opinion. Thanks.. John

Yes, a Madagascan study group

maybe a timely change. Unfortunately, I do not think I will have time to organize such a study

group. I would attend any meetings.

Glad you're

interested. I would like to see how much interest we can drum up - then we'll work towards

organizing something. I'd be happy to be involved - and I know a couple others who would also.

If any of you have interest in participating in such a session at the ACA convention

this year - please post a reply. If the interest is there - then we'll start working towards

what people would like to see in such session.

I hope we get some interest &

thanks for replying!!

Hi John,

I

think I have already told you that Dave and I will be at the Sacramento Convention and would be

very interested in any conservation suggestions for Malagasy fishes. I know we are on the wrong

side of the 'Pond', but there may be some areas where we could become involved in spite of

that factor. I hope you get a good response from your post.

Regards,
Sonia

Sonia,
I knew I

could count on you and Dave to be interested.. I'm still fishing for response, though....

I don't know what kind of number I'm looking for - but we need positive responses

if we're going to organize something.

So come on people - don't lurk... If

your interested.. open up and respond.

You only go around once - the way I figure on

it... the Madascans are fish that need our help - we've got the resources and knowledge to do

something - so let's go for it. We'll do the leg work - but we need people to show

interest!

Anyone else out there interested in getting a session together at the ACA

convention?

John

I'd be interested to hear

more about the endangered Madagascar species and thoughts on what we can do about it.

Count me in. Hopefully I will have Menarambo which

will be almost one year old when we are at the ACA convention

Speaking of P. menarambo, two

pair are guarding eggs.

However, I leave for a trip in a few days. I have no doubts

about what will happen to these eggs.

John,

You

know I will help, but we have to get something together to make an actual effort something to

strive for. I can keep the fish and breed them, but so far I have not seen anything more to work

towards.

I concur that

there's no functional plan - but if we don't establish these fish - they won't be

around when a real plan is achievable. We have the fish - let's spread them out - and

let's get successful at the one aspect we know we can have success with - keeping and breeding

- it's what we know..
Let me know when you are ready for some.

Hi John and all,

I spoke with John (via email http://cichlid.ipbhost.com/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/biggrin.gif ) yesterday and think it's a great

idea. I'm going to schedule time and location for a malagasy study group Thursday night. I

mentioned it to Alex Sanders and he said he would make a point to be there, too.

See

you in Sacramento.

BTW - please register early for the

convention. I mention this because we have an early registration deadline, after which the price

goes up. We'd much prefer you all register early.

Hey all!!

We've got some momentum!!!! I'm going to work with Lou Rovner to

put on a talk about our recent multiple successful menerambo spawnings - distribution of these fish

- and hopefully move towards discussion of what we can do to help foster conservation of the

Malgasy cichlids. Rich is working to help make this session a reality for us. PLEASE ALSO TAKE

HIS SUGGESTION FOR EARLY REGISTRATION... The local Sacramento club will benefit from your early

registration (they get a break at the banquet) AND YOU will also get a break on the early

registration cost.. I'm also encouraged to hear that many of you are interested in both the

session at the ACA convention AND helping by devoting some tank space to the young menerambo we

have available..

Cool! I will be looking

forward to it, I'd also suggest you donate some fry to the friday night ***** auction or the

silent auction and designate the proceeds go to the Paul Loiselle fund. Ken

Donating juveniles to the

auction sounds like a good idea. My only problem with it is how to get the fish there in these

post-911-travel-restricted-times....

I don't want to risk getting to the airport

with fish in my bag and someone wanting to protect the rest of the plane from my fish. I actually

thought about whether i could ship some fish in advance to someone who is running the convention.

I considered this - but I'm sure they're all going to be standing on their heads trying to

get the convention going...

Ideas gladly accepted here....

I packed fish in my

suitcase last year. I found a styro that fit in a suitcase and put bag in it. I carried it both

ways with fish. I know Fishfarm does it all the time. He just brought fish to our club meeting

earlier this month.
Shipping is another option that may be safer.

You could ship them to Pam Chin. She's got a large fish room, lives close and will

probably be running the ***** auction. http://cichlid.ipbhost.com/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/wink.gif

MANY.MANY.MANY TIMES I

have packed fish in my suitcase - however, this is risky with fish this rare. I have had friends

told they needed to remove the fish in order to travel. I wouldn't want to face that if I was

bringing a large group for donation. I'd prefer shipping - but need someone on the other end to

accept them.

there's another idea - all I need is Pam to tell me she'd be up for the plan. I'd even

You could ship fish to me if

you'd like. I'd be happy to hold them for you. I only have about 85 tanks running right now

but they're in a 2,000 sq.ft. fish/lizard room (mostly fish).

It's your call

and I won't be offended whatever you decide.
