Hello,

I am

studying invasive fish species in the Black River in the island of Jamaica. We have recently found

specimens of what we suspect to be a predatorial South American Cichlid. I am not sure what family

it belongs to. So if anyone has any idae of its taxonomy that would be really helpful.

Please find photo attached.

Boy, looks a little like a

managuense...or Jaguar cichlid. When I click on the pic it gets huge and I have to scroll L to R

to see it. Kind of hard to take it in. Could be a hybrid. If you don't get a response here

try Mo's site if you really need some help. That is www.aquamojo.com besides Mo....CA/SA

demigod...there a ton of other qualified guys that can help Ident it. http://cichlid.ipbhost.com/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif Good luck.

Looks like a Parachromis

Managuense though the head shape is reminiscent of Petinia Splendida. Pic is a bit big to get a

good view. MAybe a hybrid surprised it made it's way to Jamaica though...

Not good for the

local fish population, Yes it is Parachromis managuense, a large (over a foot) aggressive,

predatory Central American species, it will reproduce in huge spawns and eat anything that fits in

it's mouth.

I resized the picture so I could get a better look at it, it's even

worse, it's a damn hybrid of some sort, Will probably reproduce with even more hybrid vigor and

eat everything in the body of water it resides in. Ken
