One of my co-workers just got married and they are in the middle of combining houses! Well her new husband used to work as a vender for Aqueon. She told me he had a larger fish tank that he was getting rid of. I asked her how big she said it's huge.... I asked her how much and she said, "I don't know, how about 100 bucks?" I said ok sounds fair. I didn't know what to expect but when I showed up I saw it was 125 gallon tank and it was very thick glass and heavy as heck. My son is just as big as I am and we've carried a 300 gallon tank before and this was heavier than that... I'm guessing it was 1/2 thick glass. The stand was custom and it was very heavy as well. It had 2- 72" lights. The lids were dirty and the plastic hinges were all torn and cracked. So I was very happy with the deal. (It was full of water when we arrived and there wasn't any water spots or damage to the stand so it didn't leak). We get it loaded into the truck and the guys says, "Hey I'm totally done with fish, do you want all the extra fish stuff?" I said sure. We walked back to his storage shed and got two big boxes. When we walked out of the shed into the day light we set the boxes down and there was 4-5 brand new Aqua-Clear 500's. I never even knew they made that size (since found out they are the new 110's). There were several unopened Emperor 400's. He threw in a couple of very large pieces of driftwood. So I get all this loaded up and and I know I've scored a great deal and he says, He I have another tank that's not as big but you're welcome to it. I said sure, what size. It turns out its a brand new (still in the box) Biocube 29 gallon, with a new stand (still unassembled in the box). I'm guessing I ended up with over $1,500 in un-opened merchandise and the tank even used was worth a couple of hundred dollars more. So I'm re-staining the stand and getting the tank cleaned up. The rest I haven't decided what to do with it. I may donate it to a local school and see if they will start up and aquarium club...

Wow that is great. You must have been in the right place at just the right time. All of my equipment is getting very old so I would have jumped at the chance to get some new filters and other stuff.

It's good that you thought of donating the extras to schools, it's a great way to promote our hobby.
