I'm just starting to
learn. They were called Red Aurem. Thats all the guy knew. There is blue in the tail that
doesn't show in the photo.

I think it is some sort of
Thorichthys, but I am not sure. Just thought they were cool looking and wanted a tank with
something other than Africans.

Thats a Thorichthys of
some sort. I'd have to say Red Aureum too.

dunnow, never had them.

It is a Thorichthys
species, but its not in my area of knowlege. Someone might want to put this photo in the
North/Central section. There might be someone there who would know for sure.

OK, I am pretty sure they
are Thorichthys ellioti, agree or disagree?
The Thorichthys ellioti aka
(Thorichthys maculipinnis) and the Thorichthys aureus are both often sold as "Red
Aureum". I believe this started with the Thorichthys aureus which were once Cichlasoma aureum.
I would lean towards Thorichthys aureus as the proper name for your fish. I believe the T. ellioti
have a black marking on the gill plate that I don't see on your fish.

OK, now that they
actually come out and see me when I come up to the tank (just like my dog, always looking for
food), they definately do not have black spot on gill plate and the larger fish have red
throats.
Little better photo.

Better picture. Thorichthys
aurem seems to be the new general consensus. Agree?

According to Juan Miguel
this is Thorichthys maculipinnis. Just wanted to clear things up.
If that's Juan's
guess...it's mine as well. Excellent photo by the way.
