[attachment=181:attachment]Over

time I have had great difficulty identifying this creature in my tank. Quite beautiful and getting

more so all the time. From your site I thought maybe it was a Copadichromis azureus or

Pseudotropheus zebra or a couple others. But after looking into the characteristics of these

species I think not. Attached is a good photo. It actually has the markings, shape, size and such

(note the yellow egg spot) of a Labidochromis caeruleus just blue instead. What do you think?

Do not know what it is

but know what it is not.
It is not a Copadichromis and it is not a Labidochromis either.

It is a member of Metriaclima taxon.
Metriaclima taxon was erected in 1997. Prior

to that time, members of Metriaclima taxon were members of Pseudotropheus.

Continue to

search through Pseudotropehus and Metriaclima catalogs and I hope you find out what it is.

I believe

you are right. The common name we have been able to establish is "Powder Blue". I guess

the color variations are wide. This particular one is probably growing up to be a male with a lot

of color. I suspect the egg spot will multiply a bit. He is a real charmer. Do others agree that

this is a deeply colored Pseudotropheus socoloffi?

it looks like a female electric

blue johanni

I don't see any

resemblance to johannii (electric blue johannii are M. cyaneorhabdos btw). The socolofi guess is

the closest one I've seen so far.

Definately a

pseudotropheus socolofi (common name 'powder blue'), I've got a bunch of them.

The faint striping your fish has are known as 'stress bars'. These appear when the fish

is stressed, being threatened or frightened. Also they appear on socolofi which are low in the tank

hiearchy. When fully matured or when a high level of dominance is achieved the stripes will not be

present.

Your's appears to be a female.

It looks like

Melanochromis interruptus to me.

what we pass them off for

Doesn't look like any

Melanochromis type to me. IMO.

Certainly not a Melanochromis

species. There are no Melanochromis with vertical barring.

This fish is indeed a

Pseudotropheus socolofi.
