Hi Guys
was trying to figure out how to increase filter capacity on my sponge filter, and came up with the idea of modifying it to include a moving bed filter
heres what i did and what i needed
pvc pipe, pvc u bend, filter sponge, bottle / container, filter media (for this i used K1 filter media), silicone, 1 airstone, airline, 2xsuction cups
cut pipes to length, long enough to cover the sponge + an inch, and another for feeding into bottle / container. now drill the pipe onto which you'll place the sponge to all a flow through the sponge, drill 1 hole in the middle of the U bend to all airline through.also at this time drill the lid of the bottle / container to allow the pipe to go through it, silicone this lid onto 1 section of pipewhich will be siliconed into the U bend and then silicone the drilled pipe for the sponge into the U bend

then drill the bottle / container for water flow, drill along the base and the top of the bottle / container

push airline through the hole in the U bend and into where the bottle / container will attach and add airstone. before you attach the bottle / container you need to drill 2 more holes and attach suction cups to this to allow the filter be attached to the tank. now attach this bottle / container to the pipework

add the k1 filter media into the bottle / container fill about 1/4 full re attach to the pipe work, attach the airline to air pump and volia there ya go sponge filter with moving filter bed as below
