I seem to recall (by now

it's more or less a vague recollection) over a year ago that there was news about an ICC that

was going to be held in Tampa, FL in '07. I'm assuming that, based on the fact that there

will be an ACA Convention in Sacramento next year, that the ICC plans have been scrapped? I

can't find anything on it anywhere. http://cichlid.ipbhost.com/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/sad.gif

Yep, we could not find a

hotel that worked for 07, maybe in the future. Ken

Most have no concept of the

complexities involved in putting on a seminar of any kind, much less something like an ACA

Convention. ICCs are even more involved. From the start ICCs were set up to be something

"special." EVERYONE involved in the decision making process has to be of one mind. If an

alternative convention site, with a willing host and willing workers appears, it's easier to

let an ICC be put off for another year.

The west coast has a tremendous cichlid

following. Some are forum members here. I'm sure, if you were to go to the Sacramento

convention you'd find your time well spent.

At present only a few of the ACA Board

members are active here. That may change. I've found the best way to communicate with ALL of

the board members is to direct a letter to EACH of the board members. If you wanted to post a copy

here, you could do so. By sending the letter, each board member gets the comments at the same time.

They'll discuss your letter and probably give you a return reply, by letter.

BTW,

it's nice to see a fresh face asking about the "inner workings" of the ACA. More than

a few of the people reading some of MY posts seem to think I'm an ah for some of my comments.

My intent is to build a stronger and better ACA. If fresh ideas are never expressed - fresh ideas

are never implemented.

Welcome. Dan

One major problem. Too

expensive for our members. How does $120 a room night sound.

Past ICCs brought in

speakers from around the World. Now every ACA and many non ACA shows are bringing in speakers from

around the World. Nothing unique about ICC any more.

It was the hotel costs that

prevented an Florida ICC in 07'

There was talk of an Oklahoma City ICC in 07'.

I would be curious to know if those willing to go to Tampa would be willing to go to Oklahoma

City.

Actually, I have a pretty good idea of the complexities involved. As a member of the North

Jersey Aquarium Society, which hosted the ACA back in '01 (when I still lived up there), I can

tell you we had our hands full. But it was worth it. I was happy to be able to work on that

gig.

Ouch! $120/night?! http://cichlid.ipbhost.com/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/ohmy.gif I can take a cruise for less. Sounds like somebody

doesn't want to take the risk of having tanks leak or racks collapse, certainly valid concerns.

I'll bet that was probably the response we were getting after the fact, so much so that our

annual shows are no longer held in hotels. Just my thoughts there. I don't know for certain.

I do recall hearing that several hotels where we had had our shows basically told us in no

uncertain terms that we weren't welcome back.

I really do love what I get out of the

ACA, as I've been a member since 1981, and am now a life member. It's just that in a

single-income household in an area with rapidly-rising taxes, home insurance, and just the general

cost of living, the air fare to the west coast is just not an option for me this year. And

unfortunately (and it pains me to say this), I haven't set up a single tank since I relocated,

so I'm suffering fish withdrawal big-time. Once I get a second income in here, I'm getting

a Tropheus tank going. http://cichlid.ipbhost.com/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/biggrin.gif
