I don't know if they were always there but I have had an out break of snails in 2 of my tank and I mean a lot of them.
I havehad them pop up before but the assation (sp it late) snails in my little buddies guppy tank and the yo yo loaches in the angelfish tank was keeping a good handle and they would disappear.
Tonight I looked and they were all over the place.
These are not the valuble snails but the cone shaped pests
Any ideas on getting rid of them without doing a complete teardown?
I am sure I can gather some to feed my large CAs and Africans but I don't want to spread the problem:eek:

I've been told a double dose of fluke tabs will do a job on them. Heavy water change, drop the fluke tabs in and then let them sit until your next water change. Though I am fairly sure fluke tabs are not compatible with any invertebrates, so be for warned.

I believe there are certain species you can get as a solution, but you need to get those species. I had the problem which manifested in multiple tanks. I tried copper quite a bit, but they just came back. I went complete tear down, dumping the gravel into my wife's gardens.
Send some to me! I want them! One man's trash is another man's treasure. Hahaha!
I've tried the 'bait' method before with decent results. Usually they'll be attracted to a piece of meat left overnight. You can sneak in before light and net bunches of them out.

Buy a freshwater puffer. They will even get those malaysian trumpet snails. You may have to move your other fish inhabitants though.

ok my tip here is to get a few Assassin Snails (Clea helena) they will actively hunt kill and eat these pests, they are attractive themselves and dont multiply in huge amounts i generally have at least 6 in a 60l tank and it keeps troublesome snails like the malasian trumpets that you have under control and hey if they breed you could sell on the assassin snail babies.. win win situation, also if they do eradicate your snail population not to worry they then will happily feed on catfish pellets

I would vote for the Assasin snails too. It's not a quick solution but it does work really well in the long run. Start with at least 6 as you need males and females for them to reproduce. Which they do slowly. The babies live in the gravel bed where they hunt down the baby trumpet snails and eat them.

I keep several tanks loaded with snails. My paretroplus all love them. About once a week I net out a big pile of them and dump some in each tank that I keep paretroplus in.
Like chc said, one mans trash is another mans treasure.

I kept them in with all my African cichlids because I had so much rock work I couldn't vacuum the deep gravel bed. The snails kept it darn clean for me.
