The Marineland Stealth heater I had in my nannacara anomola's tank malfunctioned and quit heating the water. The water fell to about 66 degrees. Luckily I noticed and got them out of there. I was switching them to a bigger tank today and when I noticed how far the temp had dropped, I nearly had a heart attack. Those 4 little guys are amongst my very favorites and I would have been devastated to lose them. This is the 2nd Marineland Stealth that has malfunctioned. The first nearly cooked a tank of festivum and this one nearly froze my dwarfs. I wished there was a reliable heater on the market. I am done with Stealth heaters.

I heard about the stealth heaters exploding. Guess I am lucky it just stopped working. Need to get a few back up's for emergencies...needless to say they won't be Marineland brands. Have any suggestions for brands you guys have had great luck with?

The same thing happened to mine a month ago and I could have lost all my P. Menarambo had I not been in the tank and felt the water. I quickly ran to pet smart but was told I couldn't get a refund even though the heater was less than 6 months old. I ended up buying a different heater at Petsmart that night but will not be buying anymore supplies from them in the future.

Any tank not in my heated fish room gets the 'pinky test' every time I feed the fish. I just feel the water. If it feels too cool, it's time to check the heater. I've gotten pretty good at 'feeling' water temperature.

Invest in a digital thermometer. I have one that beeps after the temp falls to a set point temp.
