'ello,

So, I've been away for a while, busy with work and life and what not, and I return to find that my membership may or may not have expired, AND that I can no longer see the Cadre or have access to some of the areas that I did before I had to take my leave!!! Needless to say, I am a little more than irritated with this... If anyone who knows anything whatsoever would be so kind as to offer me an explanation for the latter, I would appreciate it. As to the former, how do I find this out?

John,
today is the 15th, you sent me a PM on the 12th that I have not had time until today to return to you. I am sorry, but was working. I explained part of the CADRE issue in PM, people who were inactive were temporarily removed. You still should be able to see CADRE forum. You are still a Moderator and as the Club Liaison Position is "OPEN" at the moment I am unsure about the committee position.

I am sorry you misunderstood. Your support has been appreciated by everyone.

The same thing happened to me last night. I was under the impression that I still had plenty of time left on my current membership.

Welcome back stranger.;) I'm looking at your join date, Sept 2009, your membership probably has expired . You might want to consider going through Paypal and renewing. I'm not sure when your actual join date was or if it for more then a year. If it was only for a year, Please renew, we like having you around:p.

If you need to talk or E-mail Claudia, She has momentarily step away from her desk:D. She will be back soon, if you need help with your membership.

Peace

Jim

Why let me or anyone register on this site and be so demanding about being an ACA member to access so many of the areas of this site. Just cuz I love fish doesn't mean I want to be a snoody member of the ACA, maybe, since I am in So. Cal. and not in the click of the many organizations involving cichlids it just isn't feasible to join. Hear in So. Cal I have no means to such organizations and do not feel I should join something predominatly focused in the midwest and east, though one would think with the introduction of the internet people from all over could have connections to the things that interst them--here I get a tease and no real contact it seeems.

Cichlid Passion-
I could see your point if the ACA was just a forum. The short answer is that it is not just a forum.

The ACA is one of the longest standing aquarium hobbyist organizations around and has a long and proud tradition that has been here long before the internet existed. It is supported by the financial contributions of its members and is not a for-profit site supported by advertising revenue like many others. Without paying members the organization and forum would not exist.

I am sorry that there are no clubs in the So. Cal. area. The closest that I know of is the Sacramento Aquarium Society. If you wish to start your own club I would be able to provide any assistance that the ACA can provide you in that endeavour. (See the ACA speaker program for more information).

And yes many of our most active members are from the Midwest and East coast. But face it... That's most of the country.

So the Midwest and East are where most of the "snoody" serious cichlid keepers are centered. Sounds like we'll be responsible for keeping the wild-types alive as their biotopes vanish while SoCal fish keepers maintain hybrids, red arowanas and $50,000 koi. And this makes us mid-western fishkeepers "snoody". All righty then.

I'm pretty sure that there's a club in San Diego. Last I checked they met at the zoo...

What is real contact and how do you get it?

C.O.A.S.T. aquarium club in in the L.A. area. it is a very active club with a lot of cichlid hobbyists, many of whom are members of the ACA. A contingent comes to the convention every year.

Good to know Ted, How come they aren't on the club contact list you sent me the other day? The only CA address on there was for Sacramento.

Because the list I sent you is very old and it needs to be rebuilt. I will talk to you about it on Sunday. Got your message.

I really didn't intend to be rudely stating the snoottiness of a particular area in this country, and I guess I did get a little frustrated as I was tring to look around the site, I appoligize for my rudeness. I understand a majority of the population is from the east and midwest and I realize ACA is and has done some good and wonderful things for the fish and for some people too.
I am a simple person, and fairly new to cichlids and learning of all the efforts of so many fishkeepers. I do not agree with hybreds, btw, and have no means of supporting a 50,000 dollar koi, I just enjoy fish and wish to participate in some consevation efforts of one or two fish --for now.
Again, I appoligize and I will continue to learn, and I will be more patient.
Andy-I will look in to San deigo group and I will ask more questions at the group I do participate in..
Thanks all for helping me set my mind straight

Don't forget PCCA! It may not be close enough to Southern Cal to go every month but it is close enough for special events. It should also definitely be in Andy's list.

By the way, the ACA does have conventions on the West Coast from time to time but they do not earn the ACA nearly as much money as conventions in the midwest and the ACA relies on that money for many of its programs.

No worries. Welcome!

Oh, by the way, I think koi are just overpriced goldfish, so you and I probably see eye to eye on that!

No Problem Cichlid Passion. Glad to have you around. And I would still encourage you to join. The ACA is so much more than a forum that it is worth it.

I like koi. Won't spend $50,000 on one but they really do have a grace and beauty to them.

CichlidPassion,
I am sorry to have taken objection. I do live in the midwest but in a very rural area and get frustrated by most of the XXL tanks on MFK being in SoCal. So I guess there are good and bad things about living everywhere. On my last trip to L.A., I DID see a $50G koi and the shops seemed to be full of FH's and Arowanas. That would frustrate any cichlid keeper, I think.
Sure glad to hear there are real cichlid enthusiasts in SoCal and I think you should consider joining the ACA. We have a lot to offer even if our conventions do center around the majority of the membership. Because of scheduling and budgeting I can't attend every convention either so I feel your pain. And speaking of shared frustrations, especially in light of some recent post battles..."Can't we all just get along?"
Peace, Dudes and Dudettes.
