I know this isn't relevent to

many of you, but I also know there are lots of smokers who attend the conventions regularly.

If you haven't noticed, the hotel for the Sacramento convention has 100% non-smoking

guest rooms.
The chairs of the convention were gracious enough to scramble and find a hotel

very near (across the freeway) as an alternate hotel for smokers. Thanks for the quick work.

Anyway, now I'm torn about

whether I want the inconvenience of having to be in a separate hotel, or shelling out a few/several

extra bucks for something like an executive suite with a walkout door (if they have one available -

I'm still waiting on an answer from Hilton).

What do the rest of you smokers plan

to do?

Please no barbs from you non-smokers, you'll have it nice this year. http://cichlid.ipbhost.com/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/wink.gif

I wish I lived close

enough to be a member, but we're about 200 miles north of the Cities...

I thought Hibbing was

further than 200 miles.

Do you know Pete Peterzen?
It is OK if you know him and

do not want to admit it http://cichlid.ipbhost.com/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/wink.gif

LOL! I know lots of

Peterzen's, but I don't believe I know a Pete. Honest... http://cichlid.ipbhost.com/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/rolleyes.gif

That reminds me, do

you know a Mike Steck? I know he's a member of MAS and I used to visit him with a friend quite

often before. He used to keep Cichlids, and most likely still does.

No not Mike. I have only been a MAS member for six years. The old timers think

of me as a newbie http://cichlid.ipbhost.com/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/rolleyes.gif

I

hope we meet in Sacramento Jan.

as far as the smoking

goes..... we are still not sure, we keep saying its a good time to quit http://cichlid.ipbhost.com/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/blink.gif but you know how that goes. as soon as

we decide I will post it here.

we plan on taking fish to sell and I don't feel that

having them accross the highway would be a good thing and I hate standing around a "sale

room" all day long.

what to do? what to do?

Yes, the "what to do?

what to do?" is a good question.

I finally heard back from the Hilton (I

hope that isn't a sign of how their service is) and they don't have any rooms with patios

or walkout doors, and only have designated areas outside for smoking......
It also doesn't

look like they have any sort of bar (I know, I know, but anyone who has attended a convention knows

that a bit of drinking goes on), so that could really be interesting too.

I called the

Red Lion and they do indeed have smoking rooms, but it's just not listed on their site, so

you'd have to call for reservations.

Now I'm down to 2 options.
1. Stay at

the Red Lion, wind up renting a car, and having the inconvenience of not being able to run up to my

room, or down to the events when I feel like it.
2. Stay home, save $1000, and miss the

convention (and my only vacation all year) for the first time since I started going.

I'm glad there's plenty of time to think about it.

You have a lot to think

about. Long way to travel not to have a good time.
I thought I read somwhere that if house

keeping finds evidence in the room they can add $$$$ to your bill.
Something like a $500.00 cleaning fee.

What's wrong with

stepping outside for 5 minute?? There will be a hospitality suite, free beer. http://cichlid.ipbhost.com/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif

For those of you that have

not visited California in last decade, all restaurants and bars are smoke free. That is not

to say that folks do not sit around in small neighborhood bars and smoke but if a stranger walks

in, they all act like they were just busted.

Same is true in Colorado now

- except the casinos. I wonder how that happened http://cichlid.ipbhost.com/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/rolleyes.gif

North of me, in

Atlantic City it was the same way with the casino's. I hear they just passed the law to make

them smoke free also.

JanS

Well, since I'm

unfortunatlely unable to attend this year, the point is probably moot, but I'm aware of the

smoking laws in CA and many other states.

As the original question I posted stated, I

was just wondering what other smokers planned to do since the host hotel is non-smoking, and there

is one across the freeway that does allow it, so which way are they going to go?

I agree. Is smoking that big of a deal?

JanS

Sorry if I brought up a

controversial topic...

My only intention was to check with the many other regular

convention attendees who do smoke to see what they plan to do in a different situation from

other years. http://cichlid.ipbhost.com/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif

Why we smoke is

not the issue....
