I am looking for an old college course book. Title: Cichlid Fishes Behavior, Ecology and Evolution. I believe it was put out in 1991 for Aquatic Biology/Zoology courses and was used in Fisheries courses as well. Purdue and IUPUI here in Indiana quit using it 3 or 4 years ago. If you know where I can get one cheap please let me know.

Thats the book but $300.00 plus dollars is not in the butget. I allready have Barlows books, do have any suggestions on others books on these topics. Or me point to someone who might have access to lower priced/used Ichtheology course books. Thanks for your help

While unlikely that anyone taking the course to become an ichthyologist would part with their course book there may have been others taking the course that sold their book back to a local college book store. I'd try to find schools that offer that degree and ask if local book stores have a copy of the book.

Have you checked the used bookstores in the host cities of Purdue and IUPUI? How about their college library? Many times universities allow local residents to use their library or do an interlibrary loan to the local county one.
Also the local library may have a "Friends of the Library" group like here in Ithaca that collects all the books being discarded by the university and county library (as well as anyone who wants to donate) then sells them at a book sale that benifits the county library. I have found many out of print and expensive books there for pennies.
Through that link I posted you may even be able to check if Purdue or IUPUI still have the publication in their library with an online "card catalogue" of sorts. I know Cornell here in Ithaca does.

Well, here is a list of libraries near purdue that have it: http://www.worldcat.org/oclc/21520278

I hope that helps.
Libraries are a dying thing; free access to info. While the internet has allowed some material, generally publicly owned info and books, to be posted on line, Google and other corporations are systematically buying the rights to the entire catalogue at the Library of Congress in such a way as to monopolize those titles in their "private" electronic library and allow viewing at a premium. It seems unseemly to me, and what the fall out from this will be, I do not know.
I see the community libraries close down with the internet supposedly replacing it. Yet, if the concept of the free use of books is under attack, as is evedenced in budget cuts for public programs, schools and libraries; so is a free public education.
Good luck in your search.

Thanks everyone for your help with finding Cichlid Fishes: Behavior, Evolution and Ecology. Joining the ACA has to be one of the best things I've done. It's refreshing to belong to an organization with people who don't just sit around and complain on there blogs all day.
