Welcome

The Sacramento Aquarium Society (SAS) is a local fish club that meets at 7:00 pm on the first Saturday of each month. We are a non-profit organization with an objective to encourage and further the interest of the care and breeding of tropical fish and to promote the exchange of information between amateur aquarists. Meetings typically include a guest speaker, bowl show, raffle, attendance prize, and an auction which includes fish, aquatic plants, and aquarium supplies. Many of the auction items go for less than wholesale prices.
Next Meeting Saturday, February 6th

Program:

Sam Borstein - "The Path to Gandoca"

Sam Borstein is a freshman biology student at Sacramento State University and does research on cichlid reproduction and evolution in Dr. Ron Coleman's Evolutionary Ecology of Fishes Lab. Originally from Chicago, Illinois; Sam is a member and master breeder of the Greater Chicago Cichlid Association, having spawned 110 different species of cichlids from all over the world. Sam has worked at various pet shops in the Chicagoland area and has done mentorships with the John G. Shedd Aquarium. He just got back from a research expedition in Costa Rica.
This talk will feature how a young ichthyologist got started as well as explain his current research on phylogenetics of Central American Cichlids. The talk will also feature pictures and stories from Sam's recent trip to Costa Rica.

Meetings start at 7pm. Click here for driving directions (http://www.sacramentoaquariumsociety.org/meetings/meetings.html). Family fun - kids welcome!

Hmmn. Sorry that I don't know of anything closer to you than SAS, which I guess is around 2 1/2 hours away. Still, while you might not want to drive that far all the time, it is an excellent club and worth that drive at least for some of their big events.
