Not readily available in

Canada but I found a local reseller (Aquatic Designs) in Canada that sells these HOB style filters.

(I am a big fan of hang on the back filters as I'm not the type to enjoy sticking my arm in

tanks.) I used to use Aquaclears but the eventual noise would drive me nuts so I went hunting for a

quiet version of this one. All I can say is wow on the eheims! had it now for 6 months and I

won't need to go looking for any other filter again... silent.
I still use the sponge

filters for any tank that will have fry, but for all other tanks the HOB eheims ar great.

Just something to keep in mind as you go hunting for filters!

I thought

Hagen was the king in Canada. If your Aqua clears had a teflon-coated ceramic shaft they'd be

quiet too. Try replacing the shaft of a noisy unit with an Eheim shaft. Dan

excellent tip! I'll

try that trick. Would save me the hassle of full replacements of all filters!

Thanks

You might also try turning the shaft upside down. Dan
