I am working with these fish and
just wondering if anyone has any experience with this endangered fish?

Hey Ron, Have not had a
chance to get any of those yet (hint http://cichlid.ipbhost.com/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/wink.gif ). But, of the 4 species on Barombi MBO fish I have 3 have
breed easily for me, with both species of Stomotepia (maria, pindu) being bi-parental mouth
brooders. I'm getting lots of fry form the Sarotherodon now also. Only one I have not bred is
the Punga. But we're working on it. I feed all of them lots of protein, otherwise they get to
skinny, I even give them beefheart too! Ken

After working with Anton on the
fish I have, it is my belief that the fish in question is actually the Sarotherodon caroli.
I am now searching for anyone in the USA with Myaka. It is now my belief that the fish
imported 2 years ago are not myaka and that I have never actually seen myaka now.
If
anyone thinks they have it, please post pics as I would like to see them and then if Myaka, get
them from YOUR source.

Hi Ken,
I'm
intrigued by your report of biparental mouthbrooding in Stomatepia pindu and mariae. We have both
of these in the lab and have had dozens of spawnings. We only get female-only mouthbrooding.
Plus, the females easily spit their eggs and never take the fry back in once they are released.

Hey Ron, I had a discussion with
Losselle on the same topic and biparental mouthbrooding in marie has been reported before, I have a
big male that will hold about twice a year when the females lay to many eggs to pick up. I've
striped him and her at the same time and got up to 100 large fry. The other males don't do
this. I'm positive he's a male as he's the dominate one who breds with all the females.

Oh, These's guys are also
very large and 6 years old. They didn't do it when they were smaller and younger, may be a age
thing or just when the females lay a batch that's to large to hold. My Pindu's are a large
group of males with only two females, I have one little male that'll sneak in a pick up a few
eggs and hold them for a few days, If I don't take them from him he eats them, and yes, none of
them will ever pick the eggs or fry back up once they spit them out. Ken

from that picture I would say it
is also S. carolli. Would have to see other shots to be sure, but I do not think that is Myaka
either.
