I use a few of these, but I

prefer the sand filters.

I also use a lot of sponge filters, as I have an air pump from

Jehmco now. I have a blower as well, but the pump I just bought at the convention is great!

I have multiple Aqua

Clear filters.
I started somewhere along the line with this brand and stick with
one type

so its easier to buy supplies.
All the tanks in the fish room have sponges. Just some have

the HOB filters.

Depending on the type of tank,

HOB filters can be great additions. The AquaClears are so versatile, especially with the huge

media chamber that I find them the best pound for pound HOB filter. For fry tanks, etc. I'd

stick with the sponge filters.

I agree. If you go with a

HOB type filter, the Aquaclears are pretty hard to beat.

Easy to put together, easy to

clean, easy to take apart and they seem to last and last. I have ones that are close to 15 years

old. I finally had to dump my really old ones as they gave up the ghost at around 20 years old.

Aquaclears for my hang on tank

(cheap and reliable), Filstar cannisters for silent and easy to use (I hate my Fluval, it never

wants to prime) and affordable, and I keep a few sponge filters hidden in tanks so they are seeded

with bacteria in case of needing to set up an emergency tank, power failure (I have a few battery

operated air pumps), fry tank, etc.
