In your opinion, is a breeding trio of C. Nicaraguense worth $150? The male is about 8 inches long and the females are about 5.

Is a Petentia Splendidia pair worth $200? Each adult is about 14 inches long.

Both are proven and are beauties. What do you think? Is this outrageous? Is this a bargain?:confused::confused:

Would I pay those prices? No. But I am cheap and patient and find lots of fish interesting. I have been in this hobby for a great many years and plan to be in it for a great many more. So, if I see a fish I like at a price I don't like, I wait. My tanks always seem to be overcrowded with cool fish as it is.

On the other hand, some fish are definitely higher quality than others. If these are top quality fish (however you personally judge quality), you may never find better ones and may not choose to wait.

I hope you're not planning on keeping these together, the snooks will eat the females and maybe even the male Nickies.

About the snooks… raising them to 14" would cost you well over $200 + time and work…?? I'd be more inclined to spend it if they're the red form.

Just my 2¢,

I would never do that, haha.

I've seen these snooks eat and those mouths are scary.

What size tank for each pair?

75 for the nics

125 or 180 for the snooks

snooks are actually pretty peaceful to fish they can't eat. I have a pair with a male pushing 11" or so in a 125. They breed all the time

having two ladies will keep the male nic busy and the ladies from each getting too much attention. I'd set up a 75 with several flowerpots and a big piece of driftwood in the middle.

That seems way to high for the Nic's to me. Unless they are wild and the best looking trio in the world I wouldn't even consider that price. There was a tankfull of nice ones at the convention that went for practically nothing in a silent auction. You should be able to buy tank bred ones when small for a couple of bucks each.

The snooks on the other hand might be close to worth that. Are the wild? What color form? You can get 5-6" red ones for about $25 each. So a top quality adult could be worth $100. The green ones are a lot rarer right now so I would be more inclined to pay more for them then the reds. Reds will always be more popular though.

I wouldn't pay nearly that much for them but I tend to buy small and grow out my fish

Are they wild caught, F1,F2? Personally I wouldn't pay that much for them especially for the Nic's! I sold some 4" F2 for $3 a piece to my LFS but that's just me. I agree with Matt why spend that much when you could just grow them out.
