View Full Version : Labidochromis hongi
Does anyone have any experience
with the growth rates of Labidochromis hongi? I acquired some a few weeks ago and they're
growing, but I heard that they tend to be slow growers. Just wanted some additional feedback.
Thanks,

I have a group that is about
6 mounths old , the males are growing much faster and at a woping 1 inch the females are only about
3/4 of an inch and already breeding .

I got a group of 3 of these in
October last year, one male and 2 females.
They have proved pretty easy to breed - first
batch about 25 fry. The fry are now 2 months old and about 1 inch in size.
The second
female has a mouth full of fry at the moment, and I'm expecting her to release this week.
The male is about 4 inches, and the females 3.5 inches. I don't know the age, but the
fry have grown quite fast.
I'll keep you informed!!

PS - This is the only Mbumba I currently keep, in a 2 foot species tank.
Mine grew at about the same speed
typical of mbuna.... I've not experienced slower growth rates with them then with other
mbuna...

Mine seem to grow fairly
slowly, not as slow as some of my dwarf species but kind of slow. Nice thing is they show nice
color young, at around 1.5-2" I see males show full orange caps and nice near adult color.
