Somewhere on the forum

I've seen both a question about a writing award and photos of a writing award being given out.

Can someone fill me in on the details? Who won? What was the article? Where was it printed? Waht

are the rules for entry? Thanks, Dan

Unfortunately the ACA awards were being given out

during the meal, which made paying close attention hard to do. There are two writing categories:

travel log and hobbyist division. I know that Juan Miguel Artigas Azas won the travel log award

first place, but I do not know who won the honorable mention (I was sitting next to Juan, so I did

notice he won). I do not know who won the first place in the hobbyist article, but my article on

breeding Pelvicachromis humilis (April BB) won the honroable mention.

I do not

know who makes that decision or what the standards are. Heck... until they called my name I did

not know they gave a writing award. http://cichlid.ipbhost.com/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/blink.gif

We will have to look into

this. It might be an incentive for more people to write.

The fact that writing

awards are given at ACA awards ceremony is published in BB. To my knowledge, ACA has been handing

out BB writing awards since 1999 and likely before that too. I do not believe there are published

criteria used to seperate winners and losers. The criteria does describe the categories from

which awards maybe chosen.

Kathy England judges which articles will win. She may ask

others for assistance in judging but ultimately, Kathy is the judge. I judged for Kathy in 2004.

That year there were two outstanding articles but unfortunately neither author was an ACA member.

I disqualified them on that basis.

Also, Ted was correct. I could not hear a word Kathy

said during the writing awards presentation. It is my understanding this will not happen again.

Congratulations Ted.
