Old timers, myself included,

used breeder colonies to maximize production of fry. Typically, 2 males to 5 or more females. Is

this the ratio you use?? If not, what ratio do you use? Do you keep the extra male/males with the

group or in a separate tank?

In general I would just have 1

male and 3-4 females per tank/breeding group. I always try to keep a second male in a mixed

species tank, MALE ONLY. I thought this allowed me to breed enough fry without having too many of

a single species. This was mainly for the peacocks and haps I breed.

For mbuna I would

have 2-3 males and 5-6 females in the tank.
