I thought I'd

introduce myself with a couple pictures..I recently rejoined the ACA...I have about 50 odd tanks

totalling 2200 gallons, and keep a variety of cichlids(mainly pikes but some other SA and CA) and a

bunch of cats and L#'s..

I picked up a couple nice groups of fish from a friend of

mine today, who's "scaling down his hobby"...David

style="color:purple">Hi David,

Welcome to the board! Those severum

are very nice. I've sold a few of the smaller ones but I hadn't seen adults. Those look

like very nice additions to your fish room!

G. balzani looks beautiful

to me.

Not to familar with American cichlids. Are balzani from Geophagus or

Gymnogeophagus?

lepidota, lenticulata, strigata, marmorata, lacustris, regani, notophthalmus, atabapo red, frenata,

as well as a few "singles" of some other Cren. species

Bob,

The balzanii are Gymnogeophagus.

Indeed, not only do they have the naked (gymno) cheeks, they are the type species of

Gymnogeophagus, so when someone finally decides that they aren't all that similar to the

rest of the species currently in Gymnogeophagus (and decides to give us a genus for the

gymnogenys group and another for the rhabdotus group), we'll still have

Gymnogeophagus balzanii.

Thanks Dean. I appreciate

the explanation as it allows me to remember how to sort between the Gymnogeo. and Geo.

Any luck trying to

breed the Marmoratas?
