Could the endangered

species list be posted here as a sticky?

I want to know what fish are on the list and to

see if I can help by keeping a species or two.

Are any of the species soft water? I

don't keep African Cichlids as a rule, but I do enjoy the West African species.

We discussed the list at the

convention. I will try to get the final/current listing and post it here in the coming days.

In addition to the

endangered species list,
I would like......

a FULL and UP to date

list of species,
ya, all cichlid species (i am only concerned with american's though)

recently i tried to find all the known types of Vieja.

after going through many

sites finding many names that were out of date, and with the help of others,
was finally able

to put togeather a list.....hopefully all correct.

QUOTE

Vieja
argentea
bifasciatus
fenestratus (normal)
hartwegi
maculicauda

melanurus
synspilum
tuyrensis
regani
breidohri
guttulata

heterospilis
ufermanni
fenestratus ‘pink’ (sp. "catemaco) or fenestratus

"oligomelanic" (depends who you ask)
bifasciatus sp. southern red
sp. "

Guatemala yellow"
zonatus or zonatum

The piont is, would just like a simple full and up to date list of scientific names. (other

facts, ex. common names, and natrual habitat locations would be nice also but might be better. to

keep it simple to start.)

i know a few sites have a lot of species listed but

I havent seen one that is complete, and that dosent have many listed under

old/incorrect names.
just me though..

now that i thnk about it, after typing all

this.
i could start this in the CA/SA forums myself. i always forget http://cichlid.ipbhost.com/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/tongue.gif

sorry for

taking this thread off on a tangent.

I will post the CARES list

very soon. I think your data ideas are good too and we can hopefully add that to species lists in

the future.

The most comprehensive data I've ever seen on a fish

forum was compiled by John Benn and others on Compuserve at Go Fishnet. I don't know if

it's in use anywhere now. If not John might be willing to let the ACA Forum use it and update

it. There'd be changes but it's a start. BTW, it was quite a bit more than a fish list.

One of the best resoures

for a comprehensive list of cichlid species arranged by geographic region and genus, go to

Cichlidroom Companion (http://www.cichlidae.info)

... and click on the 'catalog' link
