I have installed and

configured the Gallery software. I have tried to get all the permissions set and the initial

categories for posting pictures configured.

In the upper right navigation bar there is

now a gallery link. Just below that, next to MY CONTROLS, you will see MY ALBUMS. You can use MY

CONTROLS and view on the left how YOU can CREATE your OWN PERSONAL photo galleries(ALBUMS) and you

can then share pics with the rest of us.

You can post pictures directly to the

galleries, mostly they are organized by regional area. I am sure my initial thoughts on how the

categories are named or defined will have some error, but I wanted to get something up for the

members to use. I think everyone likes looking at pictures, so now we can.

I have added

additional fields to the posting process for the gallery or your albums. Mainly these fields are

just some standard information fields to specify the species, the area, temp etc.... I am NOT

saying these are perfect, most are optional, but again, it could help with a sort of species

profile.

Additional fields allow you to fill in the data necessary for the ACA CARES

program. You can fill all of these in, once the image is in your album/gallery you can also send

an eCard to others so they can see your pictures.

Additional functionality allows you to

sort of use the forum as your FISH PHOTO BUCKET account as link are provided right on the page if

you want to give a link to someone else to find your albums or the pictures in them.

I

hope these are features you might be interested in using. Please provide comments. I will kind of

see where this goes for the month of March and determine if it is worth doing.

LASTLY,

PLEASE keep the photos limited to the smaller size for a WEB photo. A small JPG or gif works best.

I beleive max presentation width is restricted to 800 x 600 or so, maybe 640x480? I will find

out.

OH Yeah, movies can be uploaded TOO.

After you figure out how

to use everything, that is a very nice gallery.

I uploaded image File Size: 131.58K •

Dimensions: 1158x1022. (on accident)
it definatly dosent have anything bolcking the larger

files from being uploaded.

the size shown wehn you

view the image is 640x480
when you click on the image it will go to the full size uploaded.

if you plan on keeping this i have many many many good pics to add but i do not want

to waste the time if their is any chance they will dissappear.

also is their any

way for it to be set up to Upload Picture from a link?

Enter the URL of the location

containing the image, it will be copied to this site.

I have NOT seen a function to

upload from anything other than the computer you are on, but I will look. For personal albums it

will allow zip files to upload packages of photos.

Based on usage is what I was

considering as far as keeping it. I guess that means if you upload pics and the gallery is used, I

will keep the software running to support the gallery.

I have left the file size high for now, but there are

restictions in place. I am trying to get people to use it and am hoping that most use smaller file

sizes as that will keep my bandwidth costs down.

Are there any other MAIN

categories you think we should have for people to upload photos into?

I was thinking

about having one for ACA Members only and possibly placing the BuntBarsche there so they would be

easily retrieved via search etc..

Maybe another with Picture of the Month contest

participants.

just ideas....................

Is there a way to add some sort of filter or

something to "personalize" the photos that our members upload, crediting them for the

photo? I remember Bob's comment about photo copyrights and people stealing the photos from

here, and other places, then posting them elsewhere as their own. Not stirring up anything, just

wondering? Dan

JustRon

They already are. The photo

is credited to them if they place a watermark on the image, this site places a watermark on the

image showing we are authorized to host the photo, and the photo is linked to their account here by

user name.

If you are worried about it you

should put a mark on your own photos before uploading.
even the cheapest paint program

everyone has can put one on, just not as nice as others.

what is your idea of small?

i see a lot of what i would consider large (1600 pix wide,

200kb+-) photos being loaded.

For online i always take mine to 600 or 800 on the long

side. depending on the pic. thats more than enough to see a large pic of something on a comp.

you dont need any larger unless you want to make a print.

Frank T

when a picture is

posted it dose not show up in all the catagories it is related to.

when i put in

cares info it dose not show up in the cares section

if central north american is

selected for a personal folder the pics do not show up in the CA/NA section.

i want the

pics to be where people can find then not have to look for them.

i

do not want to upload all twice so they could be in my personal folder and the sections they belong

in.
i would rather upload them all in their section than have any in a personal folder whre

people may never see them.

JustRon

You can just upload them in

the categories they belong to. That is why I created all of the categories before I went live with

it. There are always some limitations to the software.

Thanks Ron for setting up

the gallery. That was a great idea and I like the way it is organized.

I will

contribute as soon as I have some time.

When I was posting my photos I

tried to put them one of the catagories but it told me to select a different one when I tried to

select any of the other cat. except the member one.

I will check permisssion

settings Jim C. You should be able to upload to all of the categories as others are doing.

JustRon

Jim C.

The

permission settings are correct, you should be able to post straight to the galleries.

I

also enabled multiple picture uploads

tomorrow night.

Are you in the gallery or in

your Album/my controls area?

You have to enter through the gallery feature, click on the

gallery itself then you can add pictures directly into it.

Everything that you place

into your ALBUM goes to the members gallery

I have to say the addition of

the "Gallery" section was a great idea. I see it is slowly but surely catching on and

more and more people are posting pictures.

I would love to see more people participate

in this. I have seen a butt load of you put pics in the Cichlid Photography section, why not put a

few in the "Gallery" the link can be found at the top of the page just right of center

first in line next to the "Live Chat", "Calender", "Members", and so

on

Their are many sections to use, to include separate regions as well as a section for

a personal gallery if you wish to post one.

It would be great to see more people add to

the species sections, this way we can produce a nice list of pictures to go with correct species

names.

Not all names may be accurate, this is only the way it is, however if you see a

fish you feel is improperly identified please notify an admin or moderator of this and it will be

looked in to.

It is obviously a section that would be wanted to be accurate, for the use

of members, guests or people using search engines.

Thus far i have not been able to pull

a hit off our gallery for a species using Google, wouldn't that be nice to see our forum up

their at the top with some of the others style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif

Again i mainly

wanted to thank the admins , bots, webmasters, and whom ever else was involved in getting this part

of the forum up and running. I believe it will eventually add a great knowledge base for the

ACA.

One thing i do notice, when you submit a photo and you add a species name and fill

in any of the other areas that give information about the fish, this information is not available

for another user to see. When i view a picture all i can see is the picture caption. I myself have

entered some of the other information on the fish such as Latin name, common name, and other info.

I do not find this information available to be seen after the photo is submitted. Can this be

fixed?

It would allow this feature to not only be used a a picture gallery with the

accurate name (as accurate as we all try to help it be!) but a knowledge base to see other info

about this fish, like hardness, PH, aggression, and maybe others. These are only thoughts of added

features, but i can see a great future in the section.

I can see all of the data as

it was submitted by the users, all located to the right of the photo from the gallery. It does NOT

display if you use the large image I believe.

Thanks for the remarks though. I

purchased the license and installed it myself in the hopes people would get some benefit from it.
