Hey guys:
Looking to get back in the game after a 20 year hiatus. Just called Big Als for a price quote on
some all-glass products and was a little put back on their prices. Quoted me $400 for a 120
gallon (48*24*24) (not that bad), but then quoted me about $1,700 for a nice looking stand.
Yeah, the stand was fairly elaborate, made of wood, looked nice, included a canopy and everything
but I can't help but think I can do a lot better. Seems like thery are giving the tanks away
but marking the furnishings way up.
Does anyone know of a store in Toronto area whose
prices are very reasonable?
Thanks,
pete

Can you
do a Google or Yahoo digital city search on Toronto looking for fishstores? If so, print it out.
Now you've got something to do in your free time. Visit them all and rate them as to whether
you'll wish to do business with them in the future. I got an article on my website about how to
find the right store for you.
If we had a roster you could look for other Toronto
members. Why not do a post in the Hospitality section asking if there are any Toronto members. You
might find someone that would tag along on your fish tank search.
Typically you'll
get a better deal if you were to buy a package from the store at the same time, usually a
percentage off the total. Sometimes freebies are tossed in too.
Welcome to the
Forum.

Thanks Dan. I'll try
posting in the other section as well.

You know... a fish tank
stand doesn't always HAVE to look like a fish tank stand. Kitchen cabinets from Home Depot or
Lowe's would work too. They might need extra supports inside the stand. Here locally both often
have cabinets where the color was just off enough that it didn't match what the other cabinets
looked like. So... discount ! The cabinet would need to support about 1200 pounds. So.. no
particle board. High density fiber board would work. That's what they use for outdoor freeway
signs. They won't swell up like popcorn. It's cheaper than hardwood. You might also be able
to get the metal stands that are standard in Europe. They're more protective of the trees they
have left than we are. They also don't have someone starting fires to burn thousands of acres
each year like here.
BTW, I'd think a 125 tank would be a bit more versatile
(72x18x24).
