I have heard of someone doing
this for a number of years and having no issues.
Is anyone else trying this or have you
in the past?

If we're talking bloodworms, like Hikari's frozen
variety, they aren't really worms. They're the larval form of the midge fly. If we're
talking worms, blackworms or bloodworms NOT tubifex then:
I've never done it,
feeding lake africans using frozen or live, without problems like bloat. I've never run into a
problem with riverine africans.
I do know someone, very professional, that uses pounds
of the live stuff very successfully. When I've asked him about it he attributes the source,
duck ponds vs. sewer systems. I don't know if he purges them before feeding. Some of his
success may be a result of the size containers he uses for housing his fish. He uses concrete
burial vaults. He only uses tanks to hold fish overnight before shipping. He also uses pounds of
cilantro and zucchini, blanched or cooked before feeding. He claims that by feeding worms he gets a
bigger belly on his breeder females and correspondingly bigger spawn sizes. That's not really
significant when raising peacocks but means alot of cash raising frontosa.
I
wouldn't mess with tubifex on a bet. They don't make meds for the things they carry. Dan

bloodworms have an
undigestible exoskeleton and I wouldn't use them on any cichlid for any reason. Sure, fish are
hardy and adaptable. I am sure their guts would get used to this undigestible material and learn to
pass it, but why go that route when there's easy to use commercial foods with 0 chance of
blockages.
I once plugeed up one of my haps and after seeing a blockage passed after a
dose of epsom salt, I will avoid bloodworms forever...
