Anyone out there
got a pointer they can throw my way on these guys I have had a Wild Caught Pr Full grown for about
6 months now, most definatly a Male and Female and I have done everything from frequent water
changes, Lake Salt, live food, Temp. Drops, putting them alone, putting them with others
Neolamp's. , and nothing seems to make them want to spawn. I even read some where that they
like to stay upside down on rocks so In the 30gal I put a Holey Rock that goes from the bottom of
the tank to the top and leans in over them, yeah they sit upside down now but thats it. The male
stays at one end while the female stays behind the underground filter tubing. I just thought of one
more thing I am going to try and thats put a back ground all the way around the tank so they can
only see whats at the top of the tank. But if anyone else has some pointers please Share. I know my
fair share of fish and how to spawn them I have about 600 fish I have raised myself its just these
are being stubborn but hey thats what you get when you go WILD....... http://cichlid.ipbhost.com/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/sad.gif

Place large slabs of slate
leaning against walls of tank. Leave middle open for cyps or featherfins. Shelldwellers are OK
too. Avoid Neolamps, Tropheus etc. Paracyps spawn up against the slate slab, they need a flat
nearly vertical surface.
Female can hide from male behind the slabs. Use multiple slabs so
male cannot possible find her unless she wants to be found. If he does catch her behind a slab and
she does not desire attention, then she will swim to another slab and hide. Continue with live
foods and frequent water changes.
They do not live forever so hoping you have success
soon.

4 years is not
that bad I thought you were about to say 2yrs or something.
http://cichlid.ipbhost.com/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/wink.gif Get this I didn't have school today and I was bored
this morning and I felt like doing a real good cleaning on my Nigri Pinnis tank which is a 30gal
well I moved the big holey rock towards the front of the tank and guess what I seen my first baby
that I spawnd off a Wild Caught pr. So I was real anxious to get it down enough to pull out the
rock and I did. Guess how many babies I got http://cichlid.ipbhost.com/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/unsure.gif http://cichlid.ipbhost.com/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/sad.gif 1 I got 1 freakin baby. But I am http://cichlid.ipbhost.com/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/biggrin.gif I have been breeding for 6 years and I was
always unsure about buying wild caught pairs just because I have always heard that it was sometimes
hard to spawn F0 but I did.

Maybe you're trying too
hard . . . I had a group of the same fish, F0s as well, which wouldn't stop spawning in Houston
tapwater (dechlorinated, of course).
Where in TX are you? Most of our water is pretty
hard; I've had much better luck with F0 by letting them get acclimated to tapwater, rather than
adding salt and buffering up to Tanganyika (for example) pH. It seems like they like consistency
of pH.

No I am not trying
hard, its just some of the things I have done over the past 6 months. I just want to get these
babies movin. You know their is always someone out there that has a pointer on a certian species,
that might help. So why not ask. And also I should have gotten atleast a trio but it would have
been cool to get a group. I was buying other fish and those suckers don't come cheap. You
should know if you had a group. http://cichlid.ipbhost.com/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/cool.gif So I ended up getting a male and female. But anyways its
funny because everytime I have taken rocks out and looked for babies in my other breeding tanks I
have never just found 1 baby. But thats a sign that more should come. http://cichlid.ipbhost.com/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/biggrin.gif

Hmm. . . I'm not
criticizing your question at all, but just saying that in my own experience getting them used to
the local (hard) tapwater, and keeping the tank pristine, they bred all on their own. pH around
here isn't 8, more like 7.6 or 7.7.
So, I guess . . . be patient. I think I did
feed them a fair share of live brine, too; but they just bred on their own.
Someone else
ate the babies, but they were breeding.

Hi Led,
In my
expierence they are more aggressive than Cyps. However, aggression is concentrated on cyps and
featherfins if they are in tank. If not they will take on a lamp.
