PlanningThe 2007 Annual Convention was held in Sacramento, California, hosted by the Sacramento Aquarium Society (SAS). The convention website was http://www.aca2007.com
For a copy of the Powerpoint slide show presenting the Show Results, click here (it is a VERY large file of about 21MB!)
Dates: Thursday, July 19 - Sunday, July 22, 2007
Registration:
By ACA policy, all registrants for the convention must be a current member of either the American Cichlid Association (ACA) or the Sacramento Aquarium Society (SAS) at the time of the convention.
Hotel: Google-map
Hilton, Sacramento Arden West (2200 Harvard Street, Sacramento, CA 95815; 916-922-4700)
Hilton website You can book your room, and see a tour of the facilities. The special group rate code for the American Cichlid Association convention is "NAC". Be sure to enter it in the "Special Accounts/Group Convention Code" on the registration page -- we are getting a GREAT rate, much less than regular folks! If you've done it correctly, you should see the words "Amer Cichlid Assn" on the price quotation.
If you prefer to book your room by phone, the telephone number is
1-800-344-4321(Note: we will be checking to see that all persons paying the conference rate are in fact ultimately Registered to attend the conference -- those who are not registered will be charged the regular room rate, which is MUCH higher)
Please also note: Guest rooms at the Hilton are 100% non-smoking. Smoking rooms may be booked at the Red Lion Inn, which is across the Freeway (5 minutes away).
Confirmed Speakers List:
Tim Hovanec, Ad Konings, Ron Coleman, Andrew Soh, Oliver Lucanus, Chris Clevers, Rainer Stawikowski, Alex Saunders
Banquet Speaker: Chuck Rambo
Trips:
We have several trips planned for the conference (Lake Tahoe, Wine Tour, San Francisco) but there are tons of things to see and do in Northern California and we encourage you to make the ACA convention a focus point for a family trip to the area.
A few of the things that people might like to see
In town: The State Capitol (with our very own Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger), The Golden State Railroad Museum (a world class museum)...
Near by: The Napa and Sonoma Valleys and wineries, The Jelly Belly factory tour, the Sierras...
Day trip or overnight: Monterrey Bay Aquarium, whale watching, San Francisco...
Travel:
Sacramento is served by Sacramento International Airport (code SMF). You might also consider flying into Oakland or San Francisco which are a couple of hours away in the East Bay region and renting a car, though driving in San Francisco and the East Bay are an experience and can take some time due to traffic.
Sacramento is served by most major airlines including Alaska, Aloha, American, American West/US Airways, Continental, Delta, ExpressJet, Frontier, Hawaiian, Horizon, JetBlue, Mexicana, Northwest, Southwest, and United. Ground transportation to and from the airport includes SuperShuttle and rental cars.
It takes about 20-25 minutes to drive the 12 miles from the airport to the convention hotel. SMF has free wireless throughout and is an "easy in-easy out" airport. For those waiting to pick-up or drop-off passengers, the first half hour of parking is free. Air cargo service is available.
